Providing additional transmission capacity to trade more efficiently
Providing additional transmission capacity to trade more efficiently

Statnett and National Grid North Sea Link Limited are working together on proposals to construct an electricity link between Norway and the UK, North Sea Link (NSL).

NSL will connect the electricity systems of the two countries via subsea cables, allowing Norway and the UK to trade power.

The subsea cables will link to a converter station and a substation in Kvilldal (Norway) and in Blyth (UK).

Passing through Norwegian and British waters, NSL aims to be operational in 2021 and, when constructed, will be the longest subsea interconnector in the world.
